St Mark's Basilica Guided Tour

525 reviews | 5,569 travellers
We loved the guided tour with Martina, we were very lucky that people who had booked it failed, and to have the guided tour alone with her. He explained all the details very well, both about the Basilica and the city of Venice, and we had plenty of time to enjoy the Basilica. We could even see from the balcony the moment of the bell of the Torre dell'Orologio.

St Mark's Basilica Guided Tour

Meet your guide at midday underneath the clocktower in Piazza San Marco ready to begin your guided tour of the Venetian cathedral.

On this St Mark's Basilica Guided Tour we'll see all the details which make it so unique. During the tour, we'll see the Ascension Dome mosaics, and we'll reveal the different scenes represented. The tour will also take us to the Pala d'Oro, the altarpiece of the basilica, with its thousands of gems and precious stones.

The tour will end at 1 pm, after discovering the true masterpiece that is the Basilica of San Marcos.

Security Controls

It isn't permitted to enter the Basilica with large bags or backpacks: there is a free locker on Calle San Basso. We also recommend wearing conservative clothing. If your clothing is inappropriate, you'll have to pay 2 (US$ 2.30) to rent a cape to enter.

Itinerary Changes

Due to changes in operation, the skip-the-line service is temporarily suspended, and therefore all visitors will have to wait in line to enter the basilica.

From Monday to Saturday, the entrance will be on the ground floor of the basilica (the Pala d'Oro will be visible in the distance). Then, you'll go up to the upper floor to visit the museum, where you'll also be able to see the mosaics, after which you can go outside onto the terrace.

On Sundays and public holidays, visitors will enter directly from the upper floor to visit the museum and the outdoor terrace. The first floor will not be visited, as it is where mass takes place. On these days it will not be possible to see the Pala d'Oro or the mosaics.
