Verona & Bologna Day Trip
Once we've met up at 6:45 am inside the Santa Lucia train station, we'll set off on our adventure around the provinces of Veneto and Emilia-Romagna.
We'll board a train and leave Venice behind as we head to Verona, which is famous for being the setting of one of the greatest romantic tragedies. When we get to this northeastern Italian city we'll see the Arena and the historic centre as we stroll through the Piazza delle Erbe and admire its 275-foot (84-metre) high Lamberti Tower. We'll also stroll along the banks of the Adige River and cross the Ponte Scagliero to see the Castelvecchio, an imposing medieval fortress which houses a museum.
After our guided tour of Romeo and Juliet's city, you'll have some time for lunch on your own. Once we've reconvened, we'll travel by bus to our next destination. This would be Bologna, which is the capital of the province of Emilia-Romagna. We'll stroll through the student-filled medieval streets of this well-known university city and discover its history. Did you know that the University of Bologna is the oldest university in Europe?
In Bologna, we'll wander through the Piazza Maggiore and spot the famous Two Towers of Bologna (Garisenda and Asinelli) and Accursio Palace. We'll also stroll to the longest portico in the world before hopping on a train to return to Venice. We'll be back at the starting point at 6:45 pm, where we'll say our goodbyes.
