Doge's Palace Fast-Track Ticket & Audioguide
Why Visit the Doge’s Palace of Venice?
The Doge’s Palace of Venice is the symbol of the civil and political history of the Republic of Venice. This Gothic masterpiece was not only the official residence of the Doges (the highest leaders of the Serenissima), but also the seat of the Government, the courthouse, and the prison.
Its history dates back to the 9th century, when it was originally built as a defensive fortress. But the palace we see today, with its spectacular decoration, began to take shape with the reconstruction of the wing facing the Basin of St. Mark starting in 1340.
With this fast-track ticket, you’ll get to know the center of Venetian power. You’ll walk through the opulent rooms of the ducal apartment and the institutional halls, such as the immense Great Council Chamber, one of the largest in Europe. This hall was decorated to glorify the Republic.
During your visit, you’ll walk up the solemn Staircase of the Giants, the place where the Doge was crowned, flanked by colossal sculptures of Mars and Neptune. The route ends in the former armory and the prisons, also known as the Leads.
In addition, you’ll have an English audio guide to help you understand every detail of this impressive building. You’ll be truly impressed!
